Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival, 10 – 12 July 2014
Fresh from her visit to Namibia, YDance Artistic Director, Anna Kenrick, has returned, bringing with her a whole new level of excitement for the Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival (CYDF) – a souvenir from her time spent with youth dance group, OYO Dance Troupe.
OYO Dance Troupe will be one of 36 youth dance groups, nearly 400 young people, flocking to Glasgow this July to perform at the Festival. Groups from Australia, Canada, England, India, Malta, Namibia, New Zealand, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales will be brought together to take part in workshops, skill share with one another and showcase their own unique dance styles for the audience in the evenings of 10 – 12 July 2014 at Tramway.
Working with and learning from dance groups from different cultures, learning new skills from one another and making new friendships are the core elements we hope YDance promotes further.
YDance wants people to embrace this spirit throughout the Festival and bring a real celebration of youth dance from across the Commonwealth.
RDC Youth from Birmingham pride themselves on delivering high quality original dance and are celebrating both being selected for CYDF during their one year anniversary.
Adam Rutherford, RDC Youth Artistic Director commented:
“I am delighted that in the middle of our one year anniversary, RDC Youth has been selected to appear at the inaugural Commonwealth Youth Dance Festival in Glasgow. We also look forward to forging new working relationships with other youth dance groups from across the Commonwealth, as we work and share together to show youth dance is alive and kicking across the globe”
Audiences can also enjoy Festival Extras beginning with the Festival Photography exhibition from 30 June at The Briggait, a Festival Film Night 11 July with a selection of new dance works created by young choreographers involved in the Hothouse project in partnership with Scottish Ballet.
