Tension continues to rise at the SECC Precinct, as athletes look for victory across 13 Semi-final bouts that will book them a place in the finals at the SECC Hydro.
The Semi-Finals are packed with athletes from the home nations such Olympic champion Nicola Adams, defending Light Flyweight champion Paddy Barnes and Scotland’s very own teenage sensation, Reece “The Dragon Slayer” McFadden.
Northern Ireland has nine boxers contending for medals in the 13 semi-finals. England has seven athletes in attendance, and Wales and India each have five representatives. Scotland, the host nation has four competitors ready to make the SECC roar.

Men's Semi-Finals
Williams (WAL) V Laishram (IND)
Men’s Light Flyweight:
Team Wales Boxing captain Ashley WILLIAMS (WAL) takes on India's world No.3 Devendro Laishram (IND) with both looking evenly matched, this afternoon bout will book a place in the long-awaited final.
Whoever is successful will have the daunting prospect of fighting defending champion Paddy Barnes (NIR). Barnes takes on Fazil Juma Kaggwa (PNG) in the other semi-final and is hotly tipped to retain his Commonwealth crown.
McFadden (SCO) V Moloney (AUS)
Men's Flyweight:
Teenage sensation and self-titled 'dragon slayer' Reece McFadden (SCO) brings down the thunder for tough former light flyweight Andrew Moloney (AUS). McFadden stunned Boxing scene when he dispatched world No.1 Andrew Selby (WAL) in the first round and then defeated national champion Charlie Edwards (ENG).
Moloney impressed with his aggressive style against Ruairi Dalton(NIR) in the quarters. The other semi-final pits Pakistan’s Muhammad Waseem (PAK) against the taller Abdul Omar (GHA).
Conlan (NIR) V McGoldrick (WAL)
Men's Bantamweight:
The London 2012 Olympic Games Bronze medallist Michael Conlan (NIR) clashes with Sean McGoldrick (WAL), the defending Gold medallist from the Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games. Conlan defeated world No.3 boxer Shiva Thapa (IND) in the second round.
In the other semi-final, Qais Ashfaq (ENG) fights Delhi 2010 flyweight silver medallist Benson Gicharu Njangiru (KEN). Ashfaq stunned home town boxer Joe Ham (SCO) in the quarters and drew praise from his idol, former world champion pro boxer Amir Khan (ENG).
Flynn (SCO) V Cordina (WAL)
Men's Lightweight:
In the men’s lightweight Joseph Cordina (WAL) will face Lanark born fighter Charlie Flynn (SCO). Flynn hopes to channel his hero, former Commonwealth Gold and Silver medallist Dick McTaggart, as he steps into the SECC Precinct to book a place in the final. The home advantage might prove to be the deciding factor.
Cordina might make moves to silence the Glasgow crowd and progress through to face either world No.15 Michael Alexander (TTO), who has been training with top amateurs in Cuba in preparation for the Games or the man from Belfast’s Immaculata Boxing Club, Joe Fitzpatrick (NIR).
Taylor (SCO) V Maxwell (ENG)
Men's Light Welterweight:
It’s the battle of the national champions when Josh Taylor (SCO) faces off against Samuel Maxwell (ENG). Taylor's clever boxing and some cracking right hand shots finished the Games for Zack Davies (WAL) in the quarter-finals.
England national champion Maxwell beat Delhi 2010 gold medallist Manoj Manoj Kumar (IND). Sean Duffy (NIR) will fight Junias Jonas (NAM) in the other Light Welterweight semi-final.
Fowler (ENG) V Muziyo (ZAM)
Men's Middleweight:
Antony Fowler's (ENG) opponent in the semi-final will be African contender Benny Muziyo (ZAM), who stunned Cedric Olivier (MRI) with a knockout punch just 58 seconds into the quarter-final bout. Afterwards Muziyo was openly outlined that he’s got the same fate in store for Fowler.
The other semi-final pits experienced Olympic and World Championship Bronze medallist Vijender Vijender (IND) against Connor Coyle (NIR), who showed a cool head in his quarter-final win over Siphiwe Lusizi (RSA).
Women's Semi-Finals
WALSH (NIR) V RANI (IND)
Women's flyweight:
Michaela WALSH (NIR) meets Pinki RANI (IND) who had no trouble cruising past Jacquiline Wangi (PNG). RANI upset five-time world champion Mary KOM (IND) at India’s selection trials, earlier this year.
Mandy BUJOLD (CAN) has her sights set on beating Olympic champion Nicola ADAMS (ENG).
Watts (AUS) V Jonas (ENG)
Women's lightweight:
Shelley Watts (AUS), who upset World Championship ~Bronze medallist Natasha Jonas (ENG), meets Alanna Audley-Murphy (NIR). Laishram Devi (IND), back in the ring after maternity leave, takes on surprise semi-finalist Maria Machongua (MOZ).
Marshall (ENG) V Ogoke (NGR)
Women's middleweight:
Women’s world champion Savannah Marshall (ENG) will meet Nigerian Edith Ogoke (NGR). Second favourite Ariane Fortin (CAN) is a twice world champion at light middleweight. Her opponent is Lauren Price (WAL), a former Wales football international who retired to focus on boxing at the Games.
The Finals
Taking place in one of Scotland’s most impressive newly constructed arenas, The SSE Hydro has been modelled on Greek and Roman amphitheatres and stands 45 metres tall. Opened in late 2013, the SSE Hydro has been designed by internationally-renowned architect Sir Norman Foster.
Hosting the biggest names in entertainment before the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games, the arena will be the coliseum to decide the victors of Commonwealth Boxing as the finals set up a spectacular Saturday night.
