England's Matthew books Semi-Finals berth

Defending Commonwealth Squash champion Nick Matthew (ENG) beat Chris Simpson (GGY) to clinch a semi-final place in the squash Men's Singles at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games on Saturday.

Matthew, the No.1 seed, triumphed 3-0 (11-7 11-8 11-9) against the No.7 seed in a hard-fought encounter which lasted 53 minutes.

Countryman Peter Barker (ENG) joined him in the last four with a 3-0 (11-8 11-4 11-5) win over No.5 seed Cameron Pilley (AUS). 

Barker, the No.3 seed, took 52 minutes to beat his opponent who holds the world record for the fastest squash ball ever hit, at 176mph.

No.1 seed Nicol David (MAS) lost her first game of the women's singles competition but still defeated No.8 seed Jenny Duncalf (ENG) 3-1 (11-9 11-7 5-11 11-4) to book her place in the last four.

Joelle King (NZL) had little difficulty in beating No.7 seed Madeline Perry (NIR) to claim her semi-final position. The No.3 seed won 3-0 (11-6 11-4 11-6).
