Gymnastics is the sport that takes our breath away. Strength, grace and perfect execution combine in the quest for Gold. Two Gymnastics disciplines – Artistic and Rhythmic – will unfold at The SECC Precinct where extraordinary power, flexibility and choreography will be on display.
Artistic
Artistic competition will take place for both male and female athletes over five days. Individual apparatus medals as well as all-round individual and team medals will be awarded. Male athletes will compete on six types of apparatus – Floor, Pommel Horse, Rings, Vault, Parallel Bars and Horizontal Bar. Female athletes will compete on four – Vault, Uneven Bars, Balance Beam and Floor.
Rhythmic
Only female athletes compete within Rhythmic Gymnastics. Four apparatus events – Hoop, Ball, Clubs and Ribbon – will be contested, with athletes competing for Team, Individual All-Around and Individual Apparatus medals.
Venue: The SECC Precinct
Watch out for: Historically, Australia and Canada have dominated in both disciplines of this sport. Look out for rising stars from Malaysia and England, who were among the medal winners at Melbourne 2006, and emerging athletes from nations throughout the Commonwealth including Scotland.
