All Glasgow 2014 Shooting events will take place at the Barry Buddon Shooting Centre, which sits within the Ministry of Defense’s training camp, located in Carnoustie on Scotland’s beautiful east coast.
The shooting events are to be located in a combination of existing and temporary international standard ranges allowing spectators to experience all the shooting events on one site across;
An existing Full Bore range
Three temporary Shotgun ranges
Enclosed ranges comprising of a temporary combined10/50 metre range and a temporary 25 metre range
The ranges are located close to the world famous golf courses at Carnoustie and sit amid dramatic scenery, surrounded by windswept dunes where the fresh water of the River Tay meets the sea.
Fast facts
- In the 15th century, Henry VI dispatched a fleet to capture the King of Scotland. A battle ensued off Barry Buddon but the Scottish ships prevailed and Henry’s fleet was sent home empty handed.
- The site is a sanctuary for wildlife with official designations including Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and EU Special Area of Conservation (SAC). Shore nesting birds include terns and shell ducks while summer visitors include skylarks, meadow pipits, linnets and stonechats.
