Getting to the venue from the city centre

Details of local transport arrangements for Tollcross International Swimming Centre are set out below. Also please refer to Getting to Glasgow section for details on the best way to travel to Glasgow during the Games.

Walking to the venue in just over an hour

The walk from the city centre will be a great way to soak up the atmosphere. Games Time volunteers, called clyde-siders will be on hand to help you every step of the way. The 3.3 mile journey takes approximately one hour and 10 minutes.

The recommended route is as follows:

Head south on George Square toward Cochrane St – Continue onto South Frederick St – Turn left onto Ingram St – Turn right onto Candleriggs – Turn left onto Bell St – Turn right onto Little Dovehill – Turn left onto Gallowgate – Slight left to stay on Gallowgate – Go through one roundabout – Continue onto Tollcross Rd – Turn left into Tollcross Park – Turn left – Turn right – Pedestrian Screening Area (PSA)/Entrance on right.

Why not cycle? It’s only 19 minutes from the city centre

The Tollcross International Swimming Centre is a 19 minute cycle from the city centre.

The recommended cycle route is as follows:

Turn right onto George St – Continue onto Duke St – Turn left onto Shettleston Rd – Turn right onto Edrom St – Turn right onto Elvan St – Turn left onto Anstruther St – Continue forward into Tollcross Park – Proposed cycle parking on right.

Cycle Parking facilities will be available at Tollcross Park in close proximity to spectators’ entrance.

Travelling by rail – city centre to nearby stations in 10 minutes

Carntyne Train Station is 20 minutes’ walk from Tollcross International Swimming Centre.

From Glasgow city centre:

Take the train from Glasgow Queen Street Low Level to Carntyne, heading for Airdrie/Edinburgh. Travel time is 10 minutes.

From the Dunbartonshire/North Clyde area:

Join services from Helensburgh / Milngavie / Balloch heading towards Airdrie / Edinburgh.

From the east/Edinburgh:

Join services from Edinburgh/ Airdrie heading towards Helensburgh /Balloch / Milngavie.

ScotRail will provide up to double its normal number of carriages on key routes, but remember to allow time for the queuing systems that will be in place at the busiest stations to help journeys run safely and smoothly. Travel on a specific service is not guaranteed and should be considered when planning journey.

Travelling by bus – city to venue in 20 minutes

The Tollcross International Swimming Centre is well served by multiple bus routes with several bus stops in close proximity to the venue.

From Glasgow City Centre Argyle St, before Buchanan St take First Bus services 61, 240 and 255 to the stop at Tollcross Road at Tollcross Park, approximately four minutes’ walk to the venue.

Also take First Bus services 2, 60 and 60A to the stop in Shettleston Rd before at Wellshot Road, approximately 10 minutes’ walk to the venue.

For travel from other areas of greater Glasgow, First Bus services 8 and 46 stop on Shettleston Rd at Wellshot Road and service 64 stops on Braidfauld St near Tollcross Road, approximately between three and 10 minutes respectively, to walk to the venue.

Leave your car behind!

Please do not drive to the Tollcross International Swimming Centre. There are no parking facilities at or in the vicinity of the venue. Roads will be busy and some roads surrounding the venue will be closed.

Parking around the venue is strictly reserved for residents and local businesses only. There are no set down/pick up points. Roads will be busy and subject to closures and restrictions.

Blue Badge holders should visit here to book parking.

So leave your car behind and make use of the many other transport options available.
