Literature and Spoken Word

Event Type Literature and Spoken Word

Journey around Scottish and Commonwealth literature through readings, discussions and performance pieces.

Here are just a few of Culture 2014’s literature highlights:

Tam Dean Burn follows the Queen’s Baton Relay route across Scotland whilst undertaking The Marathon Storytelling Cycle Challenge. He will read the complete works of Julia Donaldson (that’s 184 books – and counting!) during stops as the baton travels throughout Scotland.

Scottish PEN will team up Commonwealth and Scottish writers for a unique series of literary events across Scotland, held in parallel with the Queen’s Baton Relay. These will explore Scottish connections with literature of the Commonwealth and the wider world.

Created by the Scottish Poetry Library, Commonwealth Poets United will see an exciting international exchange between six Scottish poets, and poets from six Commonwealth nations. Poets will spend time in host countries creating new work, visiting schools and exploring the local culture.
