Our Facebook fans have gone above and beyond to show support and help our timeline come to life with their ideas, comments and contributions. Throughout the build up to Glasgow 2014, we have been able to use Facebook to connect with our followers in a way that no other Games have done before.
To celebrate the Glasgow 2014 Facebook page reaching 200,000 fans, here are just a few of our favourite fan highlights.
We kicked off 2013 with the launch of our volunteer recruitment campaign, and our Facebook fans got involved with their fantastic I’m #intherunning photos and useful volunteering tips – which are sure to help our clyde-siders come Games Time.
Your support helped us receive a record-breaking 50,811 volunteer applications – that’s more than Manchester 2002 and Melbourne 2006 combined!
We marked ‘500 days to go’ until the Games with a video that shows all that’s great about Glasgow, featuring schoolchildren, apprentices, aspiring volunteers, taxi drivers, businesses, gym-goers and of course, our Facebook fans! Meet the stars of the film.
There’s no one better to give tips on Glasgow than the locals themselves. Our Facebook fans have been helping us spread the word about just how wonderful the city is – in our My Glasgow videos and Explore Glasgow itineraries.
A roundup of our favourite fan highlights would never be complete without our thistle-headed hero. Our Facebook followers love our Mascot Clyde, and the #ClydeonTour photo campaign saw him pop up in Bermuda, San Francisco and even the Wimbledon final!
Our fans certainly enjoy being the first to hear exciting news. The biggest Facebook moment of 2013 was the reveal of the Queen’s Baton – with an incredible 1,498 likes, 147 comments, 394 shares and a reach of over 75 thousand people!
Through the My Sport, Sports Star and clyde-sider of the week series, we’ve heard some truly inspirational stories about our Facebook fans’ sporting achievements and fantastic fundraising and volunteering work.
Our exclusive competitions are just a small thank you to our Facebook fans, and some of the most popular so far included the chance to win breakfast with Sir Chris Hoy at our One Year to Go party at Buchanan Street, and a pair of Games tickets – which received 10,000 entries!
Our Facebook fans have let us in on their experiences, thoughts and their unique journeys to this year’s Commonwealth Games. With only 37 days to go until the Games begin, now is the perfect time to get involved.
