Diving superstar Tom Daley picks out his personal Glasgow 2014 highlights for each day of the Games.
Wednesday 23 July | OPENING CEREMONY
As an athlete, nothing motivates you more than walking into a packed stadium full of cheering fans! The Scottish welcome is world famous, so I’m expecting big things from the Glasgow 2014 Opening Ceremony. Maybe Clyde will jump out of a plane!
Day 1|Thursday 24 July | AQUATICS (SWIMMING)
I’m hoping to cheer on local hero Michael Jamieson in the 200m Breaststroke Final – the event he won Silver for at London 2012.
Day 2|Friday 25 July | BADMINTON
Everyone has a go at school – but when you’re at the top of the rankings, it’s the fastest racket sport in the world! With shuttlecocks flying at 300km/h, it’s great fun for spectators.
Day 3|Saturday 26 July | JUDO
Judo was one of my favourite sports as a child – if I hadn’t become a diver, I’d have probably chosen to compete in judo!
Day 4|Sunday 27 July | RUGBY SEVENS
The first weekend will be a huge party atmosphere as the Rugby Sevens kicks off. Start practising your Mexican wave now!
Day 5|Monday 28 July | ATHLETICS (TRACK AND FIELD)
Men’s 100m Final time at Hampden Park. There are rumours flying that the fastest man on the planet plans to compete at Glasgow 2014.
Day 6|Tuesday 29 July | CYCLING (MOUNTAIN BIKE)
Expect mud, gravel and some extreme skills on Tuesday as the bravest mountain bike riders in the Commonwealth battle it out for Gold.
Day 7|Wednesday 30 July | ATHLETICS (TRACK AND FIELD)
On Wednesday the Women’s Heptathlon will come to a close. I know who I’ll be rooting for! Go JESS!
Day 8|Thursday 31 July | TABLE TENNIS
Forget your holiday ping-pong, watching competitive table tennis is something else – and kids especially love the incredible noise and speed!
Day 9|Friday 1 August | LAWN BOWLS
It’s Finals time at the Lawn Bowls in Glasgow’s beautiful Kelvingrove Park. I had a go playing lawn bowls recently and trust me, it’s a lot harder than it looks!!!
Day 10|Saturday 2 August | AQUATICS (DIVING)
Alright, I had to mention the Diving! My event – the Men’s 10m Platform – is on this day, and I’ll be training hard to hold on to my Gold from the last Commonwealth Games in Delhi.
Day 11|Sunday 3 August | CLOSING CEREMONY
It’s bound to be an amazing (and emotional!) Closing Ceremony. This is the moment us athletes can let loose and just soak up the amazing atmosphere in the stadium and around the city.
