For some clyde-siders, the Games have begun already. Our Uniform and Accreditation operation at Glasgow’s Kelvin Hall is in full swing and clyde-siders are at the heart of it.
We caught up with Uniforms Kate Young for a sneak peek at life in the Games’ most fashionable team!
What’s your name and where are you from?
I’m Kate and I live in sunny Uddingston!
Is this your first volunteering experience?
Yes I’m a newbie, I was a bit apprehensive at first but I’ve found everyone to be very welcoming and the whole thing has been great so far.
What made you want to get involved in Glasgow 2014?
I worked for the same company for 23 years and felt like a change of scenery. Glasgow 2014 seemed too good to miss so I went for it.
What’s your clyde-sider role?
I’m part of the Uniform team – which means my Games has started already! We deal with Uniform check in, sizing and fitting, distribution and check out.
It’s a great buzz and fun to meet all the clyde-siders and members of the Workforce as they get ready for the Games. Everyone’s really excited!
What’s great about your venue?
I have time for a quick chat with people as they make their way through the process and it’s great to hear the different stories people have about why they decided to get involved in Glasgow 2014.
We’ll have an amazing team of people at the Games!
What are you most looking forward to?
The atmosphere! Just knowing the Games is going on and being a part of it will be exciting.
If you could compete in any Glasgow 2014 event, what would you choose?
My Brother was head engineer at Emirates, so I have been in the venue before. I love the look of the velodrome; so I’d like to give track cycling a bash – how hard can it be?!
Personal highlight so far?
That’s really difficult, I’ve enjoyed all of it so far but if I had to choose I’d say getting my own Uniform – it just made it all seem real!
Would you recommend volunteering to others?
Absolutely!
