Building is well underway at the Barry Buddon Shooting Centre near Carnoustie, where some of the world’s top shooting athletes will be aiming for Gold at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
With construction work beginning on the shotgun ranges, and the rifle & pistol range progressing well, the Defence Infrastructure Organisation and the Glasgow 2014 Organising Committee are on track to deliver a world-class venue for the Games’ Shooting events.
Providing a high-standard field of play where athletes can perform at their best, the Barry Buddon Shooting Centre will also offer fantastic amenities for the 1,450 spectators who will attend on each day of competition – allowing them to make the most of their time and enjoy the festival atmosphere.
“The spectator experience at Barry Buddon is certainly something exciting to look forward to” explains Peter Underhill, Shooting Manager at Glasgow 2014.
“Each ticket allows access to a full day of competition and medal ceremonies. In addition to the sport, there will be a variety of facilities to enjoy including a ‘pitstop’ spectator seating area, and a spectator plaza which will offer an opportunity to purchase Glasgow 2014 merchandise amongst other activities. There will also be extra sport presentation features, such as screens above every shooting lane so spectators won’t miss any of the action!”
Already home to a well-established Full Bore firing range which was used for the Edinburgh 1986 Commonwealth Games, Barry Buddon’s new temporary ranges will allow all Shooting disciplines of the Games – Clay Target, Full Bore, and Pistol & Small Bore – to take place on one site.
Located in the east coast of Scotland on Ministry of Defence land, the Barry Buddon Shooting Centre will host the Glasgow 2014 Shooting competition from 25–29 July 2014.
