Athletes’ Village

Designed for athletes in consultation with athletes, the Commonwealth Games Athletes’ Village promises to be a real ‘home from home’.

Set in Glasgow’s East End, the purpose-built, low carbon village is at the heart of one of Europe’s largest regeneration areas. It will be home to the expected 6,500 athletes and CGA team officials for the duration of the Games.

The Village will offer an exclusive retail area, recreation area, dining hall, medical facility and other amenities for the use of the athletes and officials. The Athletes’ Village site will be developed by Glasgow City Council with City Legacy, a private-sector consortium which will build the first 700 units for the Games.

Through this development, Glasgow City Council plans to bring further social and economic value and regeneration to the area by creating opportunities for employment and training, local business and social enterprise.

Fast facts

• An Energy Centre will provide hot water for the homes as well as to the Emirates Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.
• Preparatory land work started on the 35-hectare site in August 2009. The Athletes’ Village will be completed in January 2014.
• 260,000 items of furniture, fittings and equipment were obtained from the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games for use in the Athletes’ Village.
