“There are so many talented people and big names in Scottish sport so it was an honour to find myself on the cover of the Ticketing Guide for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.
“I’m really happy to be the poster boy. There’s a little bit of pressure that comes with it, but I’m just looking forward to getting out there and performing next year.
“I’ve not been up to Glasgow myself yet, we’ve been getting ready for the trials down here in Lillieshall, so my head’s been focused on that, but I’ve been kept up to date on a daily basis on Twitter from people seeing me in various different places.
“They’ve just been sending me pictures of the poster in various places around the city and sent me messages saying: ‘Here you are outside my work place’ or ‘here you are on a bus stop’.
“Training has been going good – we’ve just had the trials for the World Championships which went really well. We leave on September 23 and that’s the big focus for me just now.
“We’ve got the European Championships early next year, which will be a great way to get the year started ahead of Glasgow 2014.
“Glasgow 2014 is going to be an amazing event – another major multi-sport event in my home country so I’ve got a lot of focus on that.
“I want to win a few medals at the Games, both individual and team. I’m setting my sights high for the Games.
“It’s going to be an amazing event – you’re really not going to want to miss out on it. Scottish people are well known for being passionate about sport and having that loud crowd will mean everything to the athletes competing next year.
“Personally, I thrive off the atmosphere so the louder the crowd is, the better I’ll do. I hope people take the chance to apply for tickets before the deadline tomorrow (Monday) at 6pm.
“I’m looking forward to seeing some of the other sports as well. I’m a big athletics fan and watching the best athletes in the Commonwealth running around Hampden will be special.
“I haven’t done a Commonwealth Games since Melbourne 2006, where I got badly injured so I’m looking forward to going to Glasgow, reliving the experience of being in the Village around all the other athletes, and competing in front of a home crowd. The atmosphere is going to be amazing.
“Myself and Daniel Purvis train together with some of the English guys so there’s already that banter in training with little mini Scotland versus England competitions on different pieces of apparatus. We’re all starting to think about the Games now.”
