3…2…1… it’s the final countdown to the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games. Yippee!
If you’ve walked through Glasgow Central Station recently, you may have noticed the brand new Glasgow 2014 Longines Countdown Clock, ticking down to the Opening Ceremony of the Games. How exciting!
This milestone was part of our celebrations for Commonwealth Day, which also involved children across the nation sporting their trainers in support of the Games. I visited three primary schools – Hillhead, St Stephen’s and Carnbroe – with a very special guest, Glasgow 2014 Ambassador Michael Jamieson. The school pupils we met sure know how to cheer.

It was high-fives all round at the Emirates Arena, where clyde-siders, Glasgow 2014 staff and the wider workforce joined forces for the first time at Orientation Training. The place was buzzing with people who all have the same goal – to put on the best Games ever. I even got to model our Games Time Uniform, and I felt rather dapper!
I had a fantastic day at Queen Anne High School awarding loads of primaries their Game On Scotland plaques, which recognise the cool ways schools have been getting involved in the Games. Well done everyone.
I also dropped by The Saturday Café in Cathcart and played sport with the children. I had a great time! This is a Big Lottery Fund project which gets young people with a physical or learning disability involved with the Games, through arts and fun activities.
How awesome are Hampden Park and the Athletes’ Village looking? Team Scotland’s Eilidh Child and Glasgow 2014 ambassador Jessica Ennis-Hill unveiled the latest developments this month, and they were really impressed! Check out this video of Eilidh and Jessica testing out the new rooms at the Athletes’ Village, which will welcome its guests in less than four months’ time.
I was super excited to hear about the route the Queen Baton Relay will take when it returns to Scotland on 14 June 2014. Visiting over 400 communities over 40 days, the baton’s Domestic Route will be your opportunity to get out and cheer on your local batonbearers. Congratulations to all those who have heard they have been picked to carry the baton.
