Clyde’s Diary – February

Hi everyone!

What an incredible month for sport. The Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics got me super excited for what’s to come at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games – which is now less than five months away. Woohoo!

In other sporting news, have you checked out the Glasgow 2014 Rugby Sevens schedule? I can’t wait to cheer on the teams and enjoy the party atmosphere at Ibrox Stadium. The routes for the Marathon and Cycling road events have also been announced, where some of the Commonwealth’s best athletes will compete alongside Glasgow’s iconic landmarks – and you don’t even need a ticket.

The Game on Scotland Tour has been continuing its journey across Scotland, awarding special plaques which recognise the fun ways schools have been getting involved with the Games. I’ve been practising star jumps with students, and even racing teachers. Phew!

My travels took me right up to some wonderful Scottish islands, including Shetland, Stornoway and Benbecula. In Orkney I met Youth Legacy Ambassadors, Lead 2014 Young People and the island’s netball, swimming & rock climbing teams, and enjoyed cracking views from the pier.

Back in Glasgow you might have spotted me in Central Station, encouraging commuters to apply to join the cast for the Glasgow 2014 Ceremonies. If you’ve applied and want to find out more about the experience, check out this cool video with some of the cast who performed at the Delhi 2010 Closing Ceremony. Good luck everyone!

Can you believe the Queen’s Baton Relay is already past the half-way point through the 70 nations and territories of the Commonwealth? It only seems like yesterday we were waving it off at Buckingham Palace! This month the relay departed Africa on the RMS St Helena, a ship which has carried everything from toilet rolls to crocodiles and even a fire engine.

Before I sign off, just a reminder that you can follow me on Twitter @Clyde2014. If you ever meet me out and about, have a look at my gallery to see if you can spot your face amongst the crowd!
