Ibrox Stadium, home of the famous Rangers Football Club, will host the Rugby Sevens competition. Built in 1899, the stadium has a long sporting history and has seen many stars grace the pitch. It provides a spectacular setting with superb sightlines and an intense, intimate atmosphere, which will heighten the drama of the Rugby Sevens competition.
As shown on the map, Ibrox Stadium is located south-west of Glasgow’s city centre on the south bank of the River Clyde. The stadium is 2.7 miles from Glasgow city centre and is easily accessible on foot and by cycle or by public transport as it is served by multiple rail and bus routes, as well as the Subway. Car parking at or near the venue will be restricted to authorised vehicles only.
Fast facts
- Rangers FC moved from Kinning Park to the first Ibrox Park in 1887. The present Ibrox Stadium was opened nearby in 1899.
- King George V visited Ibrox in 1917 to award honours, including knighthoods and war medals, at an open air public investiture. It was the first time this had happened in Scotland since 1603.
