Getting into Glasgow

Details of local transport arrangements for Ibrox Stadium are set out below. Also please refer to the Getting to Glasgow section for details on the best way to travel to Glasgow during the Games

Walking to the venue in one hour

The walk from the city centre will be a great way to soak up the atmosphere and will take you around one hour. Games Time volunteers known as clyde-siders will be on hand to help you every step of the way. Routes pass close to the BBC at the Quay Festival hub.

The preferred route to your venue is:

Turn right to stay on George Square – Turn left onto Queen St – Turn right onto Argyle St – Turn left onto St Enoch square – Turn right onto Broomielaw – Slight left to stay on Broomielaw – Turn left onto The Clyde Arc – Slight right onto Finnieston St – Continue onto Govan Rd – Turn left to stay on Govan Rd – Turn right onto Pacific Dr – Go through 1 roundabout – At the next roundabout, take the 1st exit onto Whitefield Rd – Turn right onto Woodville St – Turn left onto Copland Rd – Turn right onto Mafeking St – Pedestrian Screening Area (PSA)/Entrance is on left.

Why not cycle? It’s only about 18 minutes from the city centre

Cycling to Ibrox Stadium from the city centre takes around 18 minutes. The pleasant route follows the northern bank of the River Clyde out of the city centre before crossing the river to the stadium. Much of the route follows the National Cycle Network Route 75.

The recommended cycling route to the venue is as follows:

Head south on South Frederick St toward Ingram St – Turn left onto Ingram St – Turn right onto Glassford St – Continue onto Stockwell Street – Turn right onto Howard Street – Left onto Dunlop Street – Turn right onto Clyde Place – Turn left onto NCN75 – (Use Toucan Crossing at Oswald Street) – Continue on NCN75 – Continue onto Lancefield Quay – Turn left onto The Clyde Arc – Turn right onto Govan Rd – Continue onto Pacific Dr – At the roundabout, take the first exit onto Whitefield Road – Turn right onto Woodville Street – At the end of the street, turn left onto Broomloan Rd – Cycle parking is located on the left.

Cycle parking is three minutes’ walk from the venue. The cycle Parking is at the corner of Broomloan Road and Edminston Drive. There is space for 100 cycles.

Travelling by bus – city centre to venue in 20 minutes

Ibrox Stadium is well served by multiple bus routes with several bus stops in close proximity to the stadium.

For travel from the city centre use First Bus services 9, 9A and 10 and McGills services 38 and 38A, which take approximately 20 minutes to Paisley Road West at Merrick Gardens which is a five minute walk to the stadium.

McGills run the 23,23A and 26 to Govan Road from Union Street in Glasgow city centre, Govan Road is approximately 10 minutes’ walk from Ibrox.

For travel from other areas

Services 89, 90, 121 and 153 use stops within 10 minutes’ walk of the stadium.

Please be aware that Paisley Road West forms part of the marathon route which is being held on 27 July. Therefore, there will be road closures and diversions in place around the Ibrox area.

Travelling by Subway – city centre to venue from 12 minutes

The most convenient way to reach Ibrox Stadium from the city centre and west end is by the Subway. It takes just 24 minutes to complete a full circuit of all 15 stations.

The closest Subway station to Ibrox Stadium is Ibrox, approximately five minutes’ walk from the venue

Trains will run every four minutes on both circles and take approximately 12 minutes from the city centre or west end. From the city centre, use Buchanan Subway Station or St Enoch Subway Station where Subway staff will direct you to either the inner or outer circle.

From the west end, use Kelvinbridge, Hillhead or Kelvinhall Subway stations and take the inner circle to Ibrox.

Whilst additional services will be provided, the Subway system is expected to be very busy, with over 80,000 trips on the network each day. The busiest period for travelling to venues will be in the hours before and after each session so if possible travel at alternative times.

Please allow plenty of time for your journey and follow any travel information you are given.

Leave your car behind!

You are advised not to drive to Ibrox. Parking around the venue is strictly for residents and local businesses only. Except limited pre-bookable facilities for Blue Badge holders, there will be no parking or set-down or pick-up points for private cars at or near the venue. Roads will be busy and subject to closures and restrictions.

Edmiston Drive between Helen Street and Copland Road and Broomloan Road between Ardo Gardens and Broomloan Place will be closed. So leave your car behind and make use of the many other transport options available.

A dedicated shuttle bus service will depart from Buchanan Bus Station and drop off at the spectator transport mall at Brighton Street, seven minutes’ walk to the venue.

Busy Periods

Public transport is expected to be particularly busy in this area from 09.00–23.30 on 26–27 July 2014. The marathon also takes place on 27 July 2014 which will result in the closure of Paisley Road West near the venue.

Avoid travelling at the busiest times or use walking and cycling as an alternative to public transport.
