Glasgow has a long history of successfully staging major sporting and cultural events. The 2014 Commonwealth Games will be an unforgettable experience, and it will make a statement to the world about the kind of country Scotland has become.
Glasgow 2014, The Games’ Organising Committee is looking for a Head of Sport to be responsible for developing the sport strategy for the Games. They will be expected to develop the sports department’s structure, operational planning and to instigate processes that will resolve issues that arise during the delivery of the sports programme.
Central to this role is the fostering of relationships with sports bodies and the recognised delivery partners.
The Role:
- Effectively plan, manage and co-ordinate all elements of the sport functional area. Construct an organisation structure for the implementation of the sport programme and associated activities.
- Instigate the development of sports policies for the
games including taking responsibility for and coordinating observer programmes, test events, officials, Sport information, Sport programme, medical services and sports equipment.
- Maintain communication and foster relationships with the CGF and international sports federations.
The Candidate:
- Experience of event management, project management, operations and logistics at the national and international level in sport are essential.
- Financial acumen and experience of sports equipment procurement are required.
- Strong management skills allied with personal leadership and drive and a high level of attention to detail will be key to success in this role.
