What information do we collect?

We have five collection points for information from visitors to
www.glasgow2014.com. If you opt to:

  • Support the Bid – your name as an individual, organisation, company, sports club or educational establishment together with your email address and location data will be collected. Only your name and location will be displayed on the website. E-mail addresses will not be displayed.
  • Receive email updates/E-newsletter – your name and your email address will be collected.
  • Register for the Volunteer Programme – your title, name, email address, postal address, home and mobile numbers, age, gender, ethnicity and disability status will be collected.


This information is stored to allow us to send information about Scotland’s Commonwealth Games Bid that may be of interest to you. Information relating to age, gender, ethnicity and disability status is treated as strictly confidential and will be used for statistical and equal opportunities monitoring purposes only. All this information is also stored on back-up tapes to avoid loss of data.

  • Email-a-friend – The recipient will receive an email from the address you entered in “your email address” and a URL linking to www.glasgow2014.com. None of the details you submit will be retained by Glasgow City Council.
  • Contact us – Information is used to respond to queries and requests and is not retained by Glasgow City Council.


Server log files

These allow us to record visitors’ use of the website. The Internet Service Provider hosting this website, puts together log file information from site visitors which we use to make changes to the layout of the site and to the information in it, based on the way that visitors move around and interact with it. Log files do not contain any personal information.

Other websites

Our website may contain links to other websites which are outside our control and are not covered by this Privacy Policy. If you access other sites using the links provided, the operators of these sites may collect information from you which will be used by them in accordance with their privacy policy, which may differ from ours.
