Getting to the venue from around the city

Details of local transport arrangements for Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre are set out below. Also please refer to Getting to Glasgow section for details on the best way to travel to Glasgow during the Games.

Walking to the venue in 40 minutes

The walk from the city centre will be a great way to soak up the atmosphere. The 1.9 mile journey takes approximately 38 minutes. Games Time volunteers called clyde-siders will be on hand to help you every step of the way.

Head west on George Square – Slight right onto Nelson Mandela Place – Turn right onto Buchanan St – Continue onto Sauchiehall St – Turn right onto Clifton St – Enter Kelvingrove Park – Head northwest through the park towards Kelvin Way – Turn left onto Kelvin Way – PSA straight ahead.

Why not cycle? It’s only 14 minutes from the city centre

The Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre is a 14 minute cycle (2.1 miles) from the city centre.

The recommended cycling route is as follows:

Head south on George Square toward Cochrane St – Turn right to stay on George Square – Continue onto St. Vincent Place- Turn left onto West Nile St – Turn right onto Gordon St – Turn left onto Hope St – Turn right onto Waterloo St – Keep right to stay on Waterloo St – Turn right toward Argyle St – Continue straight onto Argyle St Continue onto Elderslie St – Turn left onto Berkeley Street – Turn right onto Claremont Street – Enter Kelvingrove Park – Head through park and cross Kelvin Way – Cycle Parking on west side of Kelvin Way

Cycle parking available in Kelvingrove Park by Lister and Lord Kelvin statues, four minutes’ walk from venue entry. There is space for 50 cycles.

Subway – city centre to nearby stations in 10 minutes

There are two city centre Subway stations – St. Enoch and Buchanan Street. It takes just 24 minutes to complete a full circuit of all 15 stations.

From these stations Subway to Kelvinbridge, 10 minutes’ walk to the Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre through Kelvingrove Park.

Another nearby station to the venue is Kelvinhall, this can be reached from the city centre again via St. Enoch Subway Station and Buchanan Street. Take the Subway to Kelvinhall, 10 minutes’ walk along Dumbarton Road to Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre.

Travelling by rail – city centre to nearest stations in five minutes

Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre is served by Partick Station, approximately 20 minutes’ walk from the venue.

From the west:

Join trains from Helensburgh / Balloch / Dalmuir / Milngavie.

From the east/Edinburgh:

Partick is on the Edinburgh / Bathgate / Airdrie / Glasgow Queen Street / Helensburgh /Milngavie line.

From South Lanarkshire:

Services from Motherwell/Hamilton/Lanark/Larkhall call at Partick.

From Glasgow city centre:

Join westbound train from Glasgow Queen Street Low Level to Partick.

ScotRail will provide up to double its normal number of carriages on key routes, but remember to allow time for the queuing systems that will be in place at the busiest stations to help journeys run safely and smoothly. Travel on a specific service is not guaranteed and should be considered when planning journey.

Bus – city to venue in 20 minutes

The Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre is served by a number of bus routes with stops in close proximity to the precinct.

From Hope Street at Glasgow Central Station, First Bus services 2, 3, 4, 4A, 6, 6A, 19 and 19A.

Services 4 and 4A to Eldon Street before Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre, approximately 10 minutes’ walk to venue.

Services 6 and 6A to Great Western Road (stop Kelvinbridge after Lansdowne) Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre, approximately 12 minutes’ walk to venue. Services 2, 3, 19 and 19A to Argyle Street before Radnor Street, approximately 10 minutes’ walk to venue.

There is a direct bus link from Buchanan Street Bus Station as the routes 747(First Bus) and the 7(McGills)from Renfrew Street both stop in the Kelvingrove region with only a couple of minutes’ walk to the Lawn Bowls Centre.

There are no set down/pick up points. Roads will be busy and subject to closures and restrictions
