A Quick Look at the Glasgow 2014 Bid

The Commonwealth Games 2014 will be a balanced programme of 17 sports.

Glasgow already has more than 60 percent of the venues for competition and training in place. 90 percent of the venues are within a 20-minute drive of the Games Village.

More than half of the venues are owned by Glasgow City Council, on behalf of the people of Glasgow.

It has already been stated that the public purse will contribute £298 million towards the cost of running the Games. This is being split on an 80/20 basis between the Scottish Executive and Glasgow City Council. In addition to this, the Organising Committee is expected to raise around £75 million through its commercial programme, including selling broadcasting rights, tickets, merchandising and raising £24 million in sponsorship.
