During Glasgow’s bid to bring the Commonwealth Games to the City we were delighted to have the support of a number of corporate major supporters.
They were:
1. Clydesdale Bank, one of Scotland’s leading banking and financial services companies.
2. Diageo, the world’s leading premium drinks company, which employs 4,000 people in Scotland and has a history of sports sponsorship for its major brands.
3. First Glasgow, responsible for mainline service in Scotland, and part of First Group, one of the UK’s largest transport groups.
4. Highland Spring, the Scottish soft drinks company which has a worldwide market for its sparkling and still bottled waters.
5. O2, one of the leading UK mobile telecommunications businesses.
6. Hilton, the UK arm of the leading international hospitality group
7. BBC Scotland. The BBC has unrivalled sporting knowledge of the Commonwealth Games and produced all the publicity films leading up to decision day.
Since 9 November 2007, there has been no ongoing relationship between the bid supporters and the Organising Committee. The committee is currently working on a marketing plan for the Games in 2014.
