Travelling via Ferry

Stenaline runs up to six ferry services between Cairnryan and Belfast every day and the approximate crossing time is two hours and 15 minutes. Travel from Cairnryan to Glasgow is provided by Scottish Citylink or a shuttle bus can take passengers to Stranraer railway station which offers an hourly service to Ayr.

P&O provides services to Northern Ireland from two western Scotland locations. From Cairnryan to Larne there are nine daily return services and the approximate crossing time is two hours. As above there are bus services between Glasgow and Stranraer for rail links to Ayr. During the Games, P&O Ferries will also run a service from Troon to Larne twice a day each way with an approximate journey time of two hours and 15 minutes. There are train services to Glasgow from Troon station, with up to four services an hour.

Travelling by ferry from the north of Scotland

Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) provides a number of services to Oban including:

Colonsay ― one service a day, five times a week with a crossing time of two hours and 20 minutes

Craignure – up to seven services a day with an approximate crossing time of 45 minutes

Lismore – up to four services a day with a crossing time of 50 minutes

Tiree – one service a day with a crossing time of approximately four hours

Coll – one service a day, five times a week with a crossing time of one hour

Castlebay – one service a day with an approximate crossing time of five hours

Lochboisdale – one service a day, four times a week with a crossing time of five hours

There aresix train services per day to Glasgow from Oban with an approximate journey time of three hours and 30 minutes, as well as up to three direct bus services a day.

Travelling by ferry from the west of Scotland

Caledonian MacBrayne (CalMac) provides ferry services, between the Scottish mainland and 22 of the major islands off Scotland’s west coast.

From Rothesay to Wemyss Bay, there is return ferry service every hour and the crossing time is 35 minutes. It is approximately 50 minutes by train from Wemyss Bay to Glasgow Central Station.

From Great Cumbrae to Largs there are up to four ferry services an hour each way with a crossing time of 10 minutes. There are frequent train services to Glasgow from Largs with an approximate journey time of one hour.

From Campbeltown to Ardrossan, there is a ferry service once a day, three times a week with an approximate crossing time of two hours and 40 minutes. From Brodick to Ardrossan there are up to 10 daily return services and the crossing time is 55 minutes. There are train services to Glasgow from Ardrossan Harbour every hour and the travel time is approximately 50 minutes.

Argyll Ferries provides a service from Dunoon to Gourock town centre, adjacent rail terminal. There is a ferry service every 30 minutes each way and the crossing time is 25 minutes. There are also regular trains to Glasgow from this train station and the journey time is approximately 50 minutes.
