General hints and tips
- When travelling into Glasgow, public transport will generally be the best option.
- Remember there is no general parking at or near any venue – leave the car behind.
- Glasgow is a compact city. Once in the area, the best ways to get to and from venues is by walking and cycling as public transport will be busy. Look out for signing, clyde-siders and Host City Volunteers who can help advise on the way. These options might be the quickest way to get around and will save you waiting in queues for public transport.
- Public transport will be a good option in the local area too. On the day for which it is valid, spectators’ event tickets allow access to ScotRail services, Subway services in Glasgow and the majority of local bus services in the relevant Games Zone.
- When in Glasgow, consider breaking up your journey to/from events by enjoying the many Festival 2014 venues across the city.
- Don’t forget that Park & Ride is available for major events at big venues, however this must be booked in advance. Book now, as spaces are going fast!
- Are you planning on travelling by train? If you are going to an evening session, please check the train times for your journey home, as later trains out of Glasgow will be exceptionally busy. Don’t leave it until the last train. If you intend on travelling by train from Glasgow Central or Argyle Street stations, note that if you are travelling west you need to board at Glasgow Central Station, and if travelling east you need to board at Argyle Street Station.

- Accessible transport options are available for all venues. They are free, but need to be booked in advance. Call the freephone booking line on 0800 952 0110or textphone on (18001) 0800 952 0109.
- Make sure you allow plenty of time to get to your venue and through security. Remember to only bring small bags, as large bags will not be allowed in the venues. Further details on what you can and ca not bring into a venue is available here.

Final day of the Games! Cycle Road Race and Closing Ceremony.
The Cycle Road Race route encompasses large parts of the City Centre and West End. Roads will be closed from midnight so make sure you don’t get caught out. Details of road closures here. The Road race and the number of events going on today it will be very busy, leave plenty of time for your journey.
Walking, cycling or using local buses might be the quickest way to travel to and from venues like Glasgow National Hockey Centre, Kelvingrove Lawn Bowls Centre and the SECC Precinct.
Remember if you are heading to the Closing Ceremony at Hampden – it is a 50 minute walk from central Glasgow or you can catch a shuttle service from Buchanan Bus Station.
If travelling by train to the Emirates Arena or National Hockey centre join services at Argyle Street only for Dalmarnock or Bridgeton. Do not join at Glasgow Central Station unless you have need of accessibility services.
Remember that you can use your event ticket to access local public transport within the Games Zone when travelling to and from your event. Find out more.

If you are returning to Edinburgh by train after the Closing Ceremony evening session, remember that there are three options available – Queen St High Level; Queen St Low Level via Bathgate; and Central High Level. Check your train times.
