Getting to the venue from the city centre
Details of local transport arrangements for Strathclyde Country Park are set out below. Also please refer to Getting to Glasgow section for details on the best way to travel to Glasgow during the Games.
Travelling by rail – Glasgow city centre to nearby stations in 25 minutes
Motherwell station serves Strathclyde Country Park.
From Glasgow:
Direct services depart Argyle Street and Glasgow Central High Level for Motherwell / Larkhall / Lanark.

The preferred route is:
Head south on Muir St toward Hamilton Rd – Continue to follow A721 – At the roundabout, take the first exit onto Hamilton Rd – Go through one roundabout – Slight left to stay on Hamilton Rd – Turn right onto Airbles Rd – Cross road into Strathclyde Park – Head towards water edge – Pedestrian Screening Area/Entrance straight ahead.
Note: the local access path linking from the bridge over the M74 to the bridge over the River Clyde (Motherwell Rd/Hamilton Rd) is narrow with heavy vegetation on both sides. The opening onto Motherwell Rd/Hamilton Rd allows single person access onto the pavement.
Why not cycle?
Cycling to Strathclyde Country Park from the Glasgow city centre takes around one hour and 25 minutes (14.2 miles) and the route incorporates the National Cycle Network Route 75.
From Motherwell Train Station, Please note, at busy periods there may be limited space for bicycles on trains. Check with the rail operator first for advice on the best times to travel.
Motherwell – Head north on Muir St – At the roundabout, take the second exit onto Hope St – At the roundabout, take the third exit onto Pollock St – Pollock St turns slightly right and becomes Merry St – At the roundabout, take the second exit onto Hamilton Rd – Go through one roundabout – Turn right onto Airbles Rd – Enter Park – Proposed cycle parking straight ahead.

If you are bringing your bike, please remember that you will not be able to leave any bags or panniers unattended in the cycle parking areas.
Bus
Strathclyde Country Park is well served by multiple bus routes with several bus stops in close proximity to the venue. Take the services X11 or 240X direct from Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow to Hamilton Road, approximately three minutes’ walk to the venue.
Other bus services from Hamilton Central or Motherwell Stations:
41, 56, 107/109, 201, 253 and 266, all of which run between these neighbouring towns.
Other bus services from nearby towns:
55 – Shotts – Hamilton (not via Glasgow) – three minutes’ walk
105 – Mossend – Hamilton (not via Glasgow) – three minutes’ walk
107, 109 – Motherwell Circular – three minutes’ walk
201 – Hairmyres – Petersburn (not via Glasgow) – three minutes’ walk
266 – Hairmyres – Petersburn (not via Glasgow) – three minutes’ walk
904 – East Kilbride – Hamilton Road – three minutes’ walk

You are advised not to drive to Strathclyde Country Park.
Except limited pre-bookable facilities for Blue Badge Holders at our accessibility page, parking around the venue is reserved strictly for residents and local businesses only. There are also no set down/pick up points.
Roads will be busy and subject to closures and restrictions.
Blue Badge holders should visit here to book parking.
So leave your car behind and make use of the many other transport options available.
