The Organising Committee (OC) is preparing for the launch of a new Games brand identity on Commonwealth Day, 8 March 2010.
In preparation for the launch event we have been removing the bid branding, including taking the logo down from the website. We also asked our partners, stakeholders and members of the public to support us by removing all material containing the bid branding or logo before 31 December 2009.
Creating a new Glasgow 2014 brand identity is an important part of planning for the Games because:
• The Commonwealth Games Federation requires the OC to develop a specific Games emblem within the terms of the Host City Contract.
• A new brand will give the OC the best chance of generating the revenue – this is because its exclusive use will be the product that’s sold to commercial sponsors.
• The bid had corporate supporters will not necessarily be sponsors of the Games and this could cause confusion in the marketplace.
